About Me

I’m a trained watercolorist who, while in art school, ironically fell in love with photography. This detour led to my career as a still life photographer in Chicago. Today, living on the coast in Maine allows me the opportunity to make images of the solitude of nature and the wonder of nature’s objects.

My process goes a little bit like this: Based on the weather and tide, I typically head out just before sunrise. Going somewhere new always provides “first time” opportunities, however returning to a known location can be equally rewarding.

Walking in nature reminds me of the “hide & seek” images in children’s magazines. There are breathtaking vistas and smaller compositions (which sometimes have a greater voice). However both opportunities remind me that I have to be aware and truly looking.

Gathering mental notes of the sounds, smells, light & wind adds dimension to the moment.

Finally, setting up the camera and clicking the shutter … the moment recorded.

The truth is found in the print. A successful print embodies both craft and a clear voice. When I achieve both, I have a photograph..
